Original GitHub issue: https://github.com/debauchee/barrier/issues/332

Operating Systems

Server: Windows 10

Client: Ubuntu 18.04.2

Barrier Version

2.1

Steps to reproduce bug

When running a VM using VMWare on the Ubuntu client machine, I am unable to use keys such as: ctrl, and alt in the VMWare VM, however if I use VirtualBox I can use said keys. Works perfectly fine in the client itself but as soon as I use VMWare those keys are a no-go.

Other info

  • When did the problem start to occur? When I tested this today.
  • Is there a way to work around it? No there is not.
  • Does this bug prevent you from using Barrier entirely? No.

I have seen threads going back as far as 2011 to do with this issue in Synergy and as far as I could tell it looked fixed in newer version of Synergy but I am not totally sure as I do not own a copy of Synergy.

I assume you install the VMware guest tools?

Yup! Probably should've mentioned that.
