Operating Systems

Server: latest Windows 10 (1803), but happened in previous versions too (tested with Windows 8.x). I don't remember right now if it happened with Linux. It either happens with Linux, or happens with the client, since I couldn't get a setup without this problem.

Client: Bug happens even before connecting, so no client needed to reproduce.

Barrier Version

2.1.0

Steps to reproduce bug

Set keyboard to Spanish (Spain). Press "a" and "´" (accent mark, in US keyboard it's the aposthrophe mark) repeatedly, quickly.

When the "a" is released before the "´" is, the next "a" won't be á. You should get áááááááááááá but you get something like áááaaaaaaaáa.

As a fast typist, in practice most of the accents are missing.

Other info

  • When did the problem start to occur? Years... As long as I can remember with any Synergy 1.x.
  • Is there a way to work around it? Writing very slowly, accepting the annoying typos or not writing Spanish at all.
  • Does this bug prevent you from using Barrier entirely? Yes, or at least I only start the server if strictly necessary...

@DiThi commented on GitHub (Jun 21, 2018):

Just found the issue I sent in 2015, because it has been marked as "stale" and closed: https://github.com/symless/synergy-core/issues/5007

There's more info in there:

On client machines the issue is even worse, sometimes putting the accent twice, e.g. "c´ámara" instead of "cámara".

@walker0643 I wonder what's different... What's your typing speed for Spanish? Mine is 84 WPM (>400 PPM). What keyboard layout do you use? Mine is Spanish (Spain), where the accents don't appear when you press them, but only after you press another key. That's called dead key IIRC.

Can you try the áááááá test described above or in the linked issue?

I have tried speed-typing áááááááááááá with the "United States-International" layout. It's very responsive here and doesn't miss or misprint any characters.

And I have no idea what my spanish typing speed is 😄

I have this very issue with Synergy, even with the latest paid version they provide.

However, I am unable to reproduce this issue with my current setup using Barrier 2.0.0:

  • Server on macOS 10.12.6
  • Client on Windows 10 (1803)

So, with my current setup, I can type áéíóú perfectly fine.

I will test if reversing client/server sides works fine or not.

Reinstalled Barrier 2.1.0, still happening.

@walker0643 Make sure to use "Spanish keyboard" or "Spanish (Spain)". The error can't be reproduced with US-intl for some reason.

I confirm, still in version 2.3.3

Sometimes the accent mark is missing, sometimes is double printed with no vowel, like: ''

It's very annoying and makes the application unusable.

TIA

Also, the "¨" symbol does not work at all. I have to copy and paste whenever I want to put "ü". It's really annoying. The accents "´" work sometimes good, but most of the time it just prints "´´a" instead of "á". And yes, I've checked if it was a keylogger virus, and obviously wasn't.

Same here. I have to Reload Barrier in order to fix the issue, but it comes back in a matter of a few minutes and it is very annoying.
