What happened?

This is an odd problem, I couldn't find anything while searching, so adding it here. Hopefully this is easy, but I can't find an answer.

I have Barrier 2.4 installed on MacOS as server. Fedora 36 is client.

When I move the mouse onto the client (linux), and then back onto the server (MacOS), I see very strange behavior. Let me describe:

  • The mouse cursor will "freak out" for about 3-5 seconds. By freak out, I mean the cursor on the Mac changes shapes and flashes for about 3-5 seconds.
  • I also notice high load on the Mac during this time.
  • I also notice if I watch top, that the "WindowServer" process on Mac shoots up the CPU from ~35-45% to 100-150%. It just goes crazy for a few seconds.

I've tried messing with settings, but nothing seems to make it stop. I also have to admit that it doesn't do this everytime, but probably 8/10 times when I bring the mouse back onto the Mac (server). I've also noticed it's worse when the MAC CPU is higher load (like during a google meet).

Following up here. Same setup as described above. When I have the mouse outside of MacOS, Chrome on MacOS spikes with high loads. The CPU fan turns on quite loud, and it just takes off.

When I re-enter the MacOS, the mouse will be twitchy (it kinda freaks out), and then beach balls. Sometimes it takes 30 seconds to "calm" back down, or sometimes it takes 5 minutes to come back to normal. It's so very odd.

Total speculation, but it feels like chrome loses something, and goes into some loop when the mouse is not on the MacOS screen. Not sure if it's a chrome issue, MacOS issue, or a barrier issue.

Keeping this updated to see if anyone else comes along and notices this issue too.
