Thanks for all your hard work here. When I join a Zoom app session, I can see keycastr showing the keys I'm pressing. When I share my screen, even when I hide floating meeting controls and share my entire display, the keycastr overlay disappears. Is there a way to get the overlay back so I can record my screen with the overlay visible?
@akitchen commented on GitHub (Oct 7, 2026):
I believe it should work if you share your entire screen and the app you are interested in screen-casting is not full-screen. This is largely how I use KeyCastr these days.
It's also worth looking more closely at what apps have permissions to Input Monitoring and/or Accessibility in the Privacy & Security pane in Settings.app, as these apps (as well as secure input in the terminal) can affect what key events are broadcast across the system.
@plocket commented on GitHub (Oct 15, 2026):
You're right, the keys do show up when I share my entire screen. In fact, sharing a specific portion of my screen (as opposed to one window, etc) also shows the keys. Unfortunately, I only have one screen and find it hard to manage other operations while around that shared section of the screen.
Can you say more about the Input Monitoring and Accessibility settings? What settings would help? Would I need to change KeyCastr's permissions or Zoom's or both?
If sharing keys is a system limitation that'd be a shame. I can't say it's that surprising given the way the OS has been going. It's what I was hoping to use KeyCastr for primarily, though. Zoom recordings are otherwise easy to set up for instructional videos that I want to collaborate on and share. I don't know how OBS would do with KeyCastr, but OBS took a fair amount of setup work when I last tried it and I needed to set up streaming to have collaborators join. It's been a while, so maybe I should look into it again. Regardless, it's still a great tool, thanks.
