Original GitHub issue: https://github.com/debauchee/barrier/issues/700

Operating Systems

Server: Windows 10

Client: Windows 10

Barrier Version

2.3.2

Steps to reproduce bug

  1. Install barrier as server on Windows 10 laptop.
  2. Install barrier as client on second Windows 10 laptop.
  3. Use IP address that is displayed on server configuration for client IP for connection.
  4. Click "start" on both
  5. No magic. No connection

Other info

  • When did the problem start to occur? I just downloaded barrier from github today 27 May 2020
  • Is there a way to work around it? I have not found a workaround
  • Does this bug prevent you from using Barrier entirely? Yes

I even turn off the firewall on both laptops to make sure it was not a firewall issue. Still no magic.

@aatyler56 Have you tried going through the steps on the wiki troubleshooting guide?

Chris,Thanks for the response. I have not tried the WIKI troubleshooting guide. I will try it today. I just discovered this tool yesterday. Barrier still may not be what I am looking for. I have 3 laptops that I work from and 1 55in TV serving as the monitor. I would like to be able to view whichever laptop screen on the 55in monitor that I am working with and be able to switch back and forth. Barrier sounded like a great software solution, however I may still need a physical kvm for the solution I require.
I welcome any ideas you may have or if Barrier can provide the solution for me.
Thanks
Allen

Barrier only supports keyboard and mouse switching in the sense of a KVM, not video. So no, it might not be what you're looking for. I have a 4K 4-port KVM switch I use locally, and I test Barrier in another way. I believe I got mine from eBay..

Thanks Chris,I am going through the troubleshooting procedures now. My first issues were network and firewall related issues, which I resolved. Now both laptops can ping each other, so I know they are talking to each other. I ensured barrier.exe was allowed on both the Windows Defender firewall and the McAfee firewall. Still no barrier connection yet. I am still working on at least getting barrier to work. I will try reinstalling barrier next.
Looks like I am going to have to get a physical kvm box for my needs. I still think barrier is a good option for some. I will let you know when I get it working.
