Question
How does it actually works on debian.. I've tried the "download, extract copy and paste" method first, deleted that and now am trying to install through the Flatpak, followed instructions on wiki and at releases page. Says installation was successful but I just don't know how to run it..
It's not in the menu anywhere and it isn't a global command in terminal..
I do need to state that I installed it with as well as without the --user flag.. Because the --user flag didn't work, so I just did it over as root user..
Other info
Now I know you guys are trying to just work on the project itself, but in my personal opninion, it would be great to either update or just recreate the wiki and README because I think more people have trouble getting this to work out of the box.. It's such a great concept and it would be sad if people would pass it up because they can't get it to work! ;)
@AdrianKoshka commented on GitHub (Feb 12, 2019):
er, what do you mean by that?
@ThirstyThursten commented on GitHub (Feb 13, 2019):
Okay, let me try to clarify, I'm sorry.
At first I downloaded a tar.gz (don't know which version anymore) and I copied the files in there to /usr/ it was a bin and a share folder.
Barrier application showed up in the menu, but once clicked nothing happened..
So I went on and searched and found out about the flaxpaks, so I installed all the prerequisites and while installing through the flatpak I first used the --user flag/option so I'd be able to run it as a user.
After that it still didn't work so I figured it might be the 2 different version conflicting.
So I went to that /usr/bin and /usr/share folder and deleted the exact files I copied from that tar.gz
After that Barrier was gone from the menu and no trace was left to find..
So I tried uninstalling the flatpak (for reinstall) and it came up with errors.
So I though "Let's install WITHOUT the --user flag (as root so to speak)"
That install went through without any errors had to enter the root password couple of times..
But still no trace to be found. Barrier application is not anywhere in my menu or desktop and I just don't know how to open/run the application..
I'm sorry for this very long and maybe unclear post.. I just woke up. If you need any more information please ask! 😊

That's very odd, I wonder why a
.desktopentry isn't being made.@Karlovsky120 commented on GitHub (Mar 9, 2019):
I have just tried to install barrier using flatpak on Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon 4.0.9, kernel 4.15.0-20-generic. I could not find any mention of barrier anywhere.
I'm not sure where barrier.desktop file is supposed to go, so I can't really confirm it's not there. Running barrier in terminal results with unknown command.
I installed it without the --user flag and it seemingly installed with all the dependencies without issues.
flatpak lists it as installed, but I can't find it. I'm quite new to Linux Mint (and Linux all together, if I'm being honest), so it might be an error on my part.
I'll be happy to provide any additional info, as well as test out any theories or fixes you have.

Okay, I just build it from scratch and that worked, It's finally connecting! I did have to browse to the folder where the .desktop file was created and copy it to my desktop manually. (/usr/local/share/applications/Barrier.desktop)
So that's working, it took me a little trial and error to get them connected, including adding the client in the Server layout screen. 'Cause of the lack of documentation.
It doesn't slide over to the client desktop when I slide my mouse over. Could that be because I'm using dual screen setup?
Thanks in advance

hmm, I am using Q4OS, which is a Debian derivative with TDE (KDE 3 fork) and installed the flatpak and I find Barrier in Menu->Programs->Accessories->Utilities->Barrier
Searching for a corresponding *.desktop with find results in the following file: /var/lib/flatpak/exports/share/applications/com.github.debauchee.barrier.desktop
