What happened?
I recently noticed an unknown conhost.exe process running on my Windows 7 computer. This conhost.exe seems to be associated with the Barrier service since it disappears when I stop the service and reappears immediately when I start it again.
The command line for the conhost.exe process includes a very long string of numbers. When I did a duckduckgo search on that string of numbers, I was taken right to a page on bscscan.com with information about transactions involving some crypto currency called "binance coin" (BNB) that I've never even heard of. This is weird. I've never had a duckduckgo search send me immediately to a page instead of to the regular search results before and I have no idea what this crypto thing is. I have only the most passing knowledge of anything related to cryptocurrencies, so I don't quite understand what the page is, but it seems to be showing me a series of transactions from other accounts into one particular account (though they all look like they have 0 BNB value).
To be clear, after some initial concern, I guess it doesn't seem to me like there's any scam going on with Barrier as far as I can tell. This conhost.exe process is not using any CPU, so it's not like it's doing some secret crypto mining or anything like that. I'd appreciate if someone could just set my mind at ease about this, though.
Is this conhost.exe process with a long string of numbers a legitimate part of Barrier running on Windows?
And I guess the duckduckgo search is just some kind of odd search behavior and this binance coin cryptocurrency thing is unrelated to Barrier, but if anyone does happen to know why searching for a long string of numbers on ddg would take me to a specific webpage on bscscan.com, I'd love to hear the explanation.
Thanks in advance.
