Describe the bug
In the newest version of macOS Tahoe 26.0, when restarting the computer or quitting MonitorControl then reopening, the menu icon is visible even if the "always hide" menu icon option is selected. A temporary fix is to change the menu icon option to something else and then back to “always hide”.

Steps to reproduce
Update to macOS Tahoe 26.0.
Select the "always hide" menu icon option.
Quit MonitorControl.
Reopen MonitorControl.
The menu icon is visible.

I just noticed macOS Tahoe has a new feature where you can hide app menu bar icons in system settings:
I will use this for now.

@georgeyu26 - just checked, it seems to work fine. I was trying 4.3.3 (you are running an older app version)
@hexeric commented on GitHub (Sep 17, 2025):
agreed, works fine for me BUT in some apps it indeed needs the check box in sys prefs
