Before opening the issue, have you...?
Describe the bug
Revoking MonitorControl Accessibility permissions causes system to not respond to inputs.
Why might I do something quite so silly?
I had an issue with another app intermittently not responding to shortcuts. I decided to remove it's permissions to have the other app re-prompt for them. While in Accessibility permissions, I found two MonitorControl applications so removed them both to have the correct one re-prompt.
At this point, I could no longer click on any windows, dock icons. Volume and keyboard shortcuts did not respond, not even the force logout or task manager keyboard shortcuts. Brightness controls continued to work and expose did respond once.
At this point I was about to turn off power to my iMac, but thought to turn off and on one of my monitors instead. This immediately allowed inputs to work again.
I would like to apologise for being to one to make this issue.
Steps to reproduce
Expected behavior
The app should gracefully handle the revocation of permission, or terminate itself.
It is possible this might be an OS issue to some degree.
Environment Information (please complete the following information)
Anything else? Console logs:
App opened with accessibility permissions
Using brightness keys
Delete accessibility permissions and turn off monitor (as Console window doesn't update)
@waydabber commented on GitHub (Dec 4, 2024):
This is just a standard macOS bug. When you revoke the accessibility permissions of a running app, always be prepared for an unresponsive UI. The unintuitive fix is to connect/disconnect any of your displays, close and open the lid or something similar.
