When I open the app, it takes few minutes for Apple Keyboard commands to work properly.

When I open the app, no keyboard commands work at all. After a short moment keyboard commands work, if I hold the buttons down. After few minutes, also tapping the brightness controls work like it should. It works all the time if I change the brightness with mouse using the brightness selector.

What could fix this? I have selected the listen only brightness and start at login.

My display is LG 27UK850-W.

Same issue here. Display responds to Apple Magic Keyboard 2 input several minutes after launching the app.
My display is Dell U2417H.

Similar issue here (Mojave 10.14.4/Apple Magic Keyboard 2/ASUS PB278 display/MonitorControl 1.3.0):
The brightness gets stuck after a while. The brightness keys become useless and I have to move the menu slider to wake up the app.
Previously, MonitorControl was working great on MacOS High Sierra.

The bluetooth debug/reset seems to help a bit:

Are you sure this is related to the Magic Keyboard? Have you tried testing this with either the default macbook keyboard or a different keyboard? Because there is currently an issue where the app is unresponsive at start for specific displays that we are working on.

Also, are you getting the volume/brightness HUD and not working? Or is it just showing nothing?

Is this still an issue? Could you try lowering the polling mode in advanced settings and see if that has any effect?
