macOS Monterey 12.1 beta 3 seems to have a bug that breaks gamma table based software dimming on some configurations. Symptoms are - dimming not working or color/display artifacts appear. Hopefully this issue will be resolved by the next macOS beta or the final release. There is not much we can do about it at our end.
Temporary solutions:
Combine hardware and software dimmingfor the time being or you can activate `@waydabber commented on GitHub (Dec 2, 2021):
Luckily this was fixed in beta4.
