Before opening the issue, have you...?

Describe the issue

Hello guys,

I have a MacBook Pro 13" Late 2016 with an LG34WK95U.

Problems:

  • after sleep mode I can't hear anything out of the monitor speakers.
  • Volume/Brightness Controls are not working --> ddcctl: says....
D: CGDisplay 95953B96-7D0D-96D6-5CE7-EEA4DCBA3FC4 dispID(#459102130) (3360x1417 0°) HiDPI
I: found 1 external display
I: polling EDID for #1 (ID 459102130 => IOService:/AppleACPIPlatformExpert/PCI0@0/AppleACPIPCI/IGPU@2/AppleIntelFramebuffer@2)
E: Failed to poll display!

I also tried it with an M1 MacBook Pro and the same Display and there are none of these problems.
For that case, it should be a specific problem with my Macbook, but I can't find any solutions. Also a clean install of MacOS didn't help.

Expected behavior

I hope there is an solution/fix.

Anything else?

Hi @alxshm,

yes, the LG 34WK95U is known to be super finicky especially via Thunderbolt. You should try using DispalyPort as that is known to work better. The problems seem to be more prevalent on older MacBook Pros (see https://github.com/MonitorControl/MonitorControl/issues/160). The display is said to work better with recent macs though. You can also look at these for more input on issue regarding this display:

https://github.com/MonitorControl/MonitorControl/issues?q=34WK95U+is%3Aclosed

I am afraid there is nothing much to do about the situation, as what you expereince seems to be some general low-level incompatibility issue.

I'll close this issue for now but please let me know if I you think I can be any more help with this. Also, you might want to open a discussion regarding this in the Discussion section as other 34WK95U owners might chime in or offer advice.

Thank you!
