This is intentional and will stay like this for the v4.x version. If you'd like a proper macOS 27 OSD replacement, I recommend switching to https://betterdisplay.pro.
note: although I did reverse engineer how to call the macOS 27.0 Control Center UI, this is again broken/changed in 27.2 as Apple is continuing to modify this stuff. Additionally, MonitorControl in its current form does not compile properly on Xcode 27 (with legacy OS support intact), so actually there is no way to properly build the app with Xcode on macOS 27.
@SoCuul commented on GitHub (Oct 8, 2026):
Is there a way to make it just not take over the OSD at all, and let the system handle it natively?
@waydabber commented on GitHub (Oct 8, 2026):
Not really. Although I figured out how to call the native ControlCenter UI in 27.0 but then Apple changed the whole thing again in 27.2 so I don't think it makes sense - it's not a public/stable API and a moving target destined to break from time to time. If you'd like a native-looking API (which uses the exact Apple recipe), I recommend trying the current versions of BetterDisplay - all MonitorControl features (and more) is free, no Pro license needed.
I don't plan to implement any change regarding this into MonitorControl, but intend to keep it working and behaving as is (as long as the old native UI is present in the OS, but this may not be for long, as now apps that still rely on this started to implement their own HUD, like the latest Xcode 27.2 build - this foreshadows a complete abandonment of the old bezel UI), as MonitorControl users just like the app's simple and old-school appearance (otherwise they'd switch to the myriad of other options now out there). There are a number of MonitorControl forks as well that tweak the UI this way and that.

Where can we read more on the difference between BetterDisplay and MonitorControl?

Here is a comparison of the 3 display related apps I maintain:
https://betterdisplay.pro/guide/licensing/free-and-pro-features/
You can go through the entire UI documentation (among other things) of BetterDisplay here:
https://betterdisplay.pro/guide/
(but it's probably easier just to download it and click-thru the interface).
